HINCHEYS CLASSIFICATION OF DIVERTICULITIS

 

Hinchey Classification

stage I: 

have small, confined pericolic or mesenteric abscesses stage II :

have larger abscesses, often confined to the pelvis. Stage III :

perforated diverticulitis, is present when a peridiverticular abscess has ruptured resulting in purulent peritonitis

Stage IV :

  Rupture of an uninflamed and unobstructed diverticulum into the free peritoneal cavity with fecal contamination
